Unboxing ‘Impact’: Limitations and Possibilities for Social Change in Game Design
Leonardo Custódio, PhD, is Assistant Professor in Global Development Studies at the University of Agder, Norway. He is also a Docent in Cultural Sociology at Åbo Akademi, Finland. Custódio’s research focuses on how underprivileged and marginalized people use means of communication and expression for social change. His books include “Favela Media Activism: Communication for Human Rights in Brazil” (2017) and “Fair Play: Confronting Racism and Coloniality in Games” (2022, with Dr. Sabine Harrer)

Javiera Marchant Aedo
Javiera is a human rights activist, an equality trainer and the vice-chair of Anti-Racist Forum.
Javiera came to Finland from Chile with her family as a political refugee in 1992, and is now a Tampere-based human rights activist, equality expert and educator, who focuses on practicality in her training.

Monica Gathuo
Monica Gathuo (she/her) is the co-founder of ARMA (Anti-Racism Media Activist Alliance) and a researcher of the digital media usage of women of colour in Finland. Her critical creative productions include minidocumentaries, music videos and her writing can be found in various publications. In 2024 Gathuo worked as a project coordinator for Antiracist Forum ry's Together Against Hate, a hate incident monitoring tool.
